Programmable range photobeam, one side only. Set range on DIP switches, or fully adjustable.

CoBRA is a ranging acquisition device using Lidar techniques. Infrared light is emitted in short high power pulses giving the device it’s exceptional range.  Laser is a stimulated coherent light that does not diverge, so the beam is very narrow.

The output relay switches when a target detected is less than the threshold distance (0.3 - 7.5m). Fail safe output can be set N/O or N/C. There is a green power LED & yellow detect LED.

Detection of foreign objects in a known and controlled free space, like a driveway. In automation terms, applications are either to initiate or prevent a movement; activation or safety. Supplementary safety is restricted to range up to 4m. The device is not photo-test compatible. There are also security applications for intruder or vehicle detection which are for alarm or control notification only.

The PCB has only one orientation, no angular adjustment. Be sure the surface is perpendicular to the beam. Fix the rain hood to outside walls first, then fix the beam base plate.  The device takes a four core cable through a grommet in the bottom. Two terminals for power. Two for the isolated relay contact, set to N/O or N/C.

The setting routine calibrates the range threshold, but 200mm less than the actual position of the target. Threshold can be set by DIP switch or learning. There are 7 presets. For learning set DIPs to 000

When set, the target will not activate the output. The setting procedure will not learn a target over 8m from the device.  To learn a threshold range, set all DIPs to OFF, then  ……….

  1.     Place target in the beam 200mm from threshold
  2.     Power up, and wait for the beep. You now have 10secs
  3.     Cross beam 5 times at 0.5m from sensor within 4 secs.
  4.     There are 5 beeps, then the green light flashes rapidly
  5.      Adjust the target if necessary.
  6.      When the long beep sounds, the threshold is set

Check operation by moving the target 200mm closer. The setting will be kept on power outs, but do not wave 5 times on power up!

Applications

  • · On bus or train terminus to enable automatic doors. Maintains indoor air quality.
  • · Drive through restaurant queue warning
  • · Industrial loading docks to signal when a truck has reversed to the right position.
  • · Low disruption vehicle counting systems on private and public roads.
  • · Height warning devices for roller doors, bridges, gantries, tunnels, fuel forecourt canopies, rail car transporters etc.
  • · Car park management to prevent access to vans or mobile homes, or to warn of low cars entering a goods vehicle area.
  • · Protect building site overhead services.
